Today will be the calm before the storm.
I have to admit, we have had a stretch of very good weather.
I am okay with hunkering down on a cozy Fall Sunday and
weathering the storm with the Mr., pups and flocks.
We had plans to go visit our friends at the shore that will have
to be put off .... but that is okay.
Today is prep day with many Autumn tasks still needing to be accomplished .
It has been a beautiful season so far.
We still have Lucy , the Mr. and the babies.
I thought they had flown away but what is happening is that they fly upstream every night
and come back down in the morning while flocks of migrating
geese come through every day.
So yeah, Lucy and the babies are still here.
I am happy for it.
Cooper is becoming a wonderful rooster.
the girls should be laying soon, like this week.
He is attentive and though still an adolescent , kind.
They spend hours out in the garden every day.
That takes care of me having to prep them for winter.

Cozy Fall.
It reminds me of chilly football games of my youth
( I was in the band), apple picking and the excitement
of a new academic year.
Yesterday I went up the hill and picked some fresh Honey Crisp
apples. Just me. I have to say that I kind of liked it.
I felt a bit like Ma Ingall's on the prairie... LOL!
Came home and made apple crisp, but those apples
are super as is. I have one a day with peanut butter...Yum!
I was asked to post a photo of the kitchen fireplace that I mentioned
in the last post.
Here it is....with the cozy nook that my grandson loves.
We use this one and the dining room one ( below also)
but have as yet not used the 6 others in the house.
It is a matter of getting firewood to the second floor
as well as for me an aversion to bedding + fire so close together.
Perhaps one day I may.
So this day I am bringing in wood for the kitchen fire.
I will also be settling the coops with extra bedding and checking for anything
that may blow away in the wind.
A simple supper perhaps....
This is one of our favorites:
To make it extra hearty you can add strips of bacon to the top.
and an egg.... ;)
( also, you can just open a can of beans, add the cider & spices & syrup,
just sayin')
May you all have a blessed weekend.
May you stay cozy & warm but also may you enjoy
the excitement of the storm.
xoxo
Raven
