Garden update and a fun summer project!

see that small heart just hanging out up there?
It is the universe telling me everything is going to be alright!

๐ŸŒป

Did you know that when you are your most authentic you,

you are rewarded with the most amazing people and events

in your life.

Even if you think that you will be edited or forgotten or

whatever people do now because they do not like what they

do not understand....

God presents people into my life just when I need them.

I have had the honour lately for that to happen in such

 wild serendipitous moments....

Seriously, it was like I ordered help from prayer

and it showed up at my doorstep.

Sometimes you need to clear out in order for the fresh air to

arrive.....

Or like my momma used to say, * sometimes it is a compliment to be unliked

by certain people*

Just my little bit of wisdom for you all today.

Speaking of.... I should be cleaning out the houses' closet.

The room that has all of the outside holiday stuff, garbage pail, overflow from the

kitchen ( pans etc..) and farm junk ( canning, egg cartons etc..) today.

I should be doing that.

Instead I would rather blog and avoid it.

It will get done...but I will procrastinate for as long as I can.

Besides, I am resting my knee after morning garden/chicken chores....

๐Ÿ˜‰

My faithful partner, Sweet Pea helped me gather todays haul...

my first corn, beans, blackberries, tomatoes and eggs.

I have several heavy Italian striped squash on the vines still

and baskets of tomatoes almost ready to pick!

I can not tell you how satisfied I feel looking at that small display but also knowing that

I was physically able to do this. Lugging and shovelling and hauling every day

had been getting harder and harder.

Then the unthinkable happened...

My sweet Orpington flock was massacred by that Fischer cat and I had a hard

choice to make: pull back on chickens and stop with the gardening.

I felt defeated.

Then, as I told this story before I was in the grain store and

saw this hat that said Chicken Momma.

At that moment I felt my own momma in my heart telling me

to 1. get that hat but also not quit.

Chickens are my thing.

They allow me to do what I do naturally...tend.

And I can pour all of my extra love into them.

They reward me with purpose and love and eggs!

Sweet Pea, bless her heart is a survivor.

I found her under the inside roost shivering with fear.

And yet, this darling chicken walks fearlessly into the very garden they

met Jesus in.

A tiny sweet chicken can teach one a lot about life.

I was beaming as if I had acres of corn harvested today!

This is tonights supper!

A little Gaga update on the coolest children around....

They are all thriving and doing their best to make memories this Summer.

I can not believe how they have grown!

As you have noticed, I have decided to pull back on the amount

and how I post about them.

As they get older, and AI gets weirder... I want to respect their privacy while still

bragging as every red blooded Gramma does.

Aren't they just so adorable?

Speaking from the Mercantile.... I just love postcards!

I love sending them and receiving them.

I have a whole stack, lovingly wrapped in cotton velvet ribbon from

people who travel way more than I do.
( I am a house mouse , but I adore day trips)

I will be making a ring binder book for the grandchildren.

What a great way for them to learn about new places.

Aunts and uncles traveling to spots and their stories....

Here is how I will do it:

What a great project to do with littles.

Also, you can do this with holiday cards and recipe cards as well.

Simple but also a fun way to share .... better than keeping in a box hidden away.

You can get the hoops and hole punch online or at most stores...I even

found them at my local grocery .

It is August friends!

The Sunday of the Summer.

The weeks of ( for me anyway) getting nut tan, eating all the local

things ( ice cream included) , spending time outdoors morning to night

and the best sleep of the year!

Especially these past cool nights.

Soon, I will be putting up jam, filling the pantry with locally

canned things.....

I just ordered this book for my littles.

It is so sweet and a part of me also is excited to read it ....

Our love for the meekest of us all is one part of us

that speaks to our overall humanity.

I am surrounded by folks who have deep love for those who can not

speak for themselves, most are farmers.

God has given us the job of caring for them and I take that

job quite seriously.

How blessed are we to have that task?

From procrastinating me to you.....

have a beautiful day friends.

Much love,

Raven
