Hello.
So what if we were taught all wrong.
Perhaps we were meant to be like the animals that I witness here over the
seasons and instead of growing fat in the winter and thinning out in the
summer we do the opposite?
Our bodies need rest.
I rest it by intermittent fasting.
That allows your body to clean out & heal instead of processing
food. Now, I am no doctor so do not quote me on anything I say
or do. I am just someone who has lived a few years who
sees patterns.
Forcing oneself to feast & eat sugars in the season of darkness
seems so counter productive.
Feasting should be done as we awaken in the Spring to fuel our return to
the sun and activities that require muscles.
Just like those mammals and other species do.
*
This year I plan on creating healthy & nourishing meals for supper
while perhaps adopting the *grazing* method for
breakfast & lunch.
Kind of like the British' Ploughman's lunch or
our Charcuterie board in small form.
Bits of things scavenged from the pantry and fridge
on a plate that you return to whenever you wish.
How good do these plates look?
It is not a silly new diet or a restrictive program either.
Along with this I will also start to lift weights gently.
Nothing heroic, just to rebuild muscle mass.
Sleep.
Well, you all know that sleep is not hard for me.
I am off in a heartbeat , often while holding a book.
I dream all night as well off & on for 3-4 cycles.
Warmth.
There are tow season that ate extra for those who live in a
stone house... after summer and after winter.
At these times, the stones have either warmed up or cooled down
but not enough for the heat or cool to click on so you
are either hot & sticky or freezing.
I find myself in the bath not for cleaning or relaxing but to
warm my whole body.
Keeping warm is a new thing for me as I was that
girl without a coat on all winter.
Here I have socks on and blankets in all of the rooms.
After a month or so of heat, I will eventually be okay.
But I will still sleep in a cool room - always.
Sun.
Sunshine is still important but we will soon not get the right angle
for vitamin D production.
I am outside as much as I can be.
The light in my eyes helps me sleep as well as I do,
setting my circadian rhythm.
Be.
We are not animals so as humans we have to work and
do errands, attend church and , well just be.
But the premise is interesting enough for me to
implement it in my days moving into the colder months.
Letter writing, writing all the things, sewing my new gown,
being a gramma a somewhat farmer, a pom momma, an entertainer
- being a wife, just being.....
I have never known a day living with my Viking that
has not been challenging or dull.
That keeps me on my toes.
I am open to this season of returning to a more feral state of living.
It makes sense.
In a world where nothing makes sense, I find it refreshing to
slip into modalities that encourage it.
We were never meant to know all the things, at once and make decisions
that affect our whole lives in a blink of an eye.
We were never meant to hear so many voices come at us
from all of the places and mouths at the same time.
The ability to ponder and think deeply has been lost.
I hope not forever.
Faith.
Well, I left this for last because it is so very important to me.
The belief that something bigger than I who loves me unconditionally,
who died for me is enough.
With that, I am able to navigate the ugliness stirred up by
trouble makers and evil intended folks.
I pray... a lot .
For people I love and for those who I have lost to
the world.
I pray for others and I pray for peace.
That is all I can do.
Without it, I would be a tortured soul.
So my friends, that is my seasonal outline so to speak.
A relaxed return to common sense, basic needs and
the ability to slowly heal amidst blankets and pots of tea.

I have linked this recipe because it is all about Fall.
It is all about the yummy nutritional bounty we get to enjoy.
Roasts are so useful for a whole weeks worth of suppers.
The least can be turned into part of the ploughman's lunch,
a breakfast hash, open faced sandwiches, soups etc...
I try and do one roast every few weeks.
Link to the full recipe below the photo.
Much love & blessings,
Raven
xoxo
