A bit of Stone Hollows story.....

Good Friday!

And a fine morning it is!

I have had questions regarding the  property  so I will answer them:

The road in the photo was a dirt road when we moved here.

( you can see it in the photo past the apple tree)

It bisects our property to the river.

They have since paved most of it and the addition of

new homes as well as the influx of people to

the area to golf 6 months out of the year has made the road

quite busy.

I love going to the river every morning to pray and

just connect with nature to start my day.

Stone Hollow is comprised of over 20somethig acres

( for now) which used to be a mill village starting

in the 1600's though it is misstated that it is of 1800's

origin, we have found documentation that it has been a working

mill site since the 1600's.

We have most of the buildings foundations on the property

as well as several buildings that run both sides of the river

up and down stream.

An archeological dig was completed over 2 summers

by Brown University students.

I have all of the literature published and a few artefacts as well

as the book by  Albert Bartovics then of Brown University is in the library

and will remain with the home in perpetuity.

We care for the waterfall and the property ourselves.

It is listed on the National Trust For Historic Preservation and also

is designated an Historical Landmark.

and it has a Wikipedia site here:

***************************

I love that we live in history.

It is our passion to preserve as much of it as we can

and pass it along to the next generation.

We are the caretakers who care for the maintenance of the waterfall,

who take garbage out of the river weekly, we have restored fences, walls,

waterways and the house proper.

It literally takes me days to get through basic cleaning.

But I would not have it any other way.

Each uneven board, sticking up nail that catches my socks, cobwebs that grow out of nothing

makes me think of those who cared for the house centuries ago.

I can only guess it was harder back then as was most everything else.

This year we have taken on projects involving other structures on

the down stream property side.

The front walk was redone last year while the back patio

( after the daisys bloom will get the same treatment)

I am so grateful that I get to hear the geese ( Lucy) in the morning,

Mrs. Wren, Phoebe and Catbird all day and see the turtles

come the warm sunshine.

Oh & on hot summer nights.... the frogs and toads are deafening!

Raven family loves our dumpster and often leaves us trinkets

on the sides. They almost sound as if they are speaking across the road,

it can be creepy at times! LOL!

Fridays I do a *once through*.

I go through every room and briefly dust, sweep, vaccume, tidy

and that will take me most of the morning after chicken chores.

Paperwork in the library at noon with lunch or outside

on the patio in the sun.... and then I can pick a larger chore

from my massive list- like organising the pantry or freezer or

washing the windows in the chicken coop

or weeding a bed ( there have been so many Gardners who

lived here and who laid the bones to beautiful seasonal gardens.

I add where I can, move things that aren't thriving where they are and trim.

It is still a huge effort....but as you know, I love gardening so...

*******

That is a small dive into Stone Hollow.

There is still so much to share, so much to tell you about the stories of

people who lived and worked here.

For now... I will leave it.

Thank you again for following *us* as we work diligently on

our dream.

Supper idea:

Tonight we will be enjoying the local farms bacon and my attempt

at baking GF bread again with BLT's or for the Viking:

BLC's ( bacon lettuce & cheese)

Easy supper as we are outside until dusk 8-ish.....

this time of the year.

I love sprouts in place of lettuce but nothing beats crunchy iceberg lettuce!

A good BLT & Iced Tea!

MMMMMMM

My mantra every day.....

Friends, do what you love, say what you need to say.

Be kind, have Grace and pray for those who have harmed you.

That is a recipe for happiness.

Yes, the world is unhinged, in the last throws of whatever is happening

that made friends and family fight, people argue over obvious things,

allowed our small towns and farms to crumble and our sense

of peace disrupted.

It is the last days of wicked people throwing everything they

have at the wall to see what will stick before they are

proven wrong and removed from whatever foot hold they had.

Truth:

We all want to have a peaceful life.

( well, most of us)

But as I have written about before, fear has kept many from just being themselves.

As time moves on... will those who attacked, judged and harmed those who

did not agree with them apologise for their behaviours ?

Probably not.

As time moves along and we discover that many people were just wrong,

facts wrong, media reports wrong etc... will there be any remorse

for the years of  strife and heartache caused by wilful ignorance?

No.

I doubt it.

So then, let us just move along...

Stop waiting and just live your life and if people

do not agree with something you said, thought, did, supported

or wrote on your personal page, then that is a Them problem.

Not a You problem.

Have a blessed Friday friends!

xoxo
