Good Morning!
It is Friday and it is not an arctic freezer out there!
It is 36* where I live with a high of 43* predicted.
Hooray !
I do not know about you all but anything above 35* feels like
I am at the beach in July!
I have an appointment in town this morning and it is my
errand day. The post office, car wash, weird shopping list day.
I am looking for a good pair of walking sneakers.
I may even treat myself to some flowers.
🌷
What are you all doing on this fine Friday?
It is the last day of February as well.
Tomorrow is March, which may as well be Spring in my book!
My planner is already bursting with activities planned
in March. It is as if life starts again for us.
Yes, I understand that we can get more winter weather.
It has happened before ...big Nor'Easters up the coast
but that snow melts quite quickly now.
Our suppers look a bit different going into the new season.
We are sick of heavy meals and often look to
'lighter, more flavor diverse meals.
Above is one eclectic example:
GF multi grain organic pizza, tuna salad, Spanish rice, radish and pickle
salad, lettuce, quinoa salad, blueberries, strawberries and orange with micro greens.
I make the salads at the start of the week and by Friday we have
clean up. I adore these types of meals.
In season right now are citrus, artichokes and the start of
greens. I also replace one meal a week with something light,
like lentils & rice with lemon sauce or shrimp.
Of course I have eggs and I boil a few to have during the week.
In salads, as is or on toast...
Eggs are a huge part of our diet.
Well that only makes sense, doesn't it?
Having my flock & all...
Eggs also make it easy to get that protein in.
Carbs are lessened and we focus on Protein ( usually meat)
fruits and veggies .
With a sprinkling of dairy...
One of my favorite days of the year!
We switch out the old sand that has sat for the Fall & Winter
for new sand in the exterior coops and runs.
Pressure washing the exterior comes next.
Then paint where needed.
This year I have some surprise projects that I can not wait
to share with you all.
It involves the coops and my gardens and a few added
extras that will make the whole place look magical!
These girls are waiting for their Spring cleaning !
That is Honey to the left, one of the Wyandotte sisters ( who are 7 this year!)
and a few of the new batch from last year that I have not yet named because they
were canibals and tried to eat their blind sister ( Beauty ) who is in
the honeymoon coop now with Apple Cider.
It was hard to bond with them.
I will have to think of names for them.
This is my inspiration for the new gardens.
Chicken friendly plants where they can go and enjoy themselves
during a hot day.
The weekend is close at hand.
Aren't Fridays wonderful?
Enjoy yours, and think about the Spring...
warm breezes, windows open and all the good things!
Blessings,
Raven
xoxo
