Photo: Karen M. This morning, Maine. I miss this view, this state, the haddock & the people. Enjoy my friends! |
Good Morning.
Wednesday, June 4th.
It is supposed to be hot today & tomorrow so I will be free ranging the flock early
and making sure that the babies stay hydrated and not over do it in the brooder.
I am on the (sort of) mend...*fingerscrossed*.
Stomach issues are no joke.
My friends are in Maine and I remember spending many, many weekends there
looking for homes.
I loved Maine back in the day.
I hear that it suffered with influx of city folks just like everywhere in
the northeast. Sad. They overrun, drive up prices and then try and take over.
Ugh...and do not get me started on demolishing beautiful New England homes
in favour of *modern farmhouse chic*.
I really thought we would land there.
And if we had it would have been in a home such as this...with a big barn.
Isn't it just iconic?
But GOD had different plans for my Viking & I.
He wanted us closer for a reason.
And now we have 3 amazing reasons to be right where we are.
My grandchildren.
💙💙💗
The Mr. & I are doers.
We do not sit and watch things happen, we make things happen.
This Maine lesson was a huge one.... it told us to trust, even when
we were directing decisions at the time that would save
my husbands life.
GOD knew better.
And it is when we finally took our hands off of the wheel
for once that the miracles started happening.
We did all that we could and then let go.
I will never live anywhere but New England.
It is here that I was raised and here I will be laid to rest.
In between, I plan on tapping into every blessed corner.
House mouse me loves curating the home, making the dishes ,
exploring the history right here where I live.
Stone Hollow, our home is the ruins of a once thriving New England mill town.
No Main Street here...just the foundations of homes, shops and mills
comprised a 100 acre plot of land.
We are reviving one foundation now and I will post more about it as we get
further along. For me, the spirit of this once bustling town is what I
feel every day. I am aware of the mundane chores, the laundry washed
at the river side, the firewood needed to be brought up the stairs
to heat and cook.
I do much the same now...hundreds of years later.
I have fallen in love with it.
Though sometimes lonely over the past years, I am growing less
isolated by knowing that there are many souls still here with me.
But most of all, God is here.
It may not be a home on the coast of Maine .
It is our sanctuary crafted of perseverance and love.
We did ( and still ) do the work and leave the rest up to someone bigger than us.
Suppers are so random these long days....
It seems that we just want to be outside as much as we can.
No long sitting dinners with endless conversation and rich hearty meals.
We come in late and remember that we have to eat.
LOL!
One of my favorite to whip up is a wedge salad.
And do not limit it to what is in this recipe...whatever is
seasonal or in the fridge is fine.
I make the bacon in the oven in the am before the day gets hot.
Then it is ready for whenever we get in.
Add freshly grated parm cheese though.... it makes it so special!
Now Go!
Enjoy this amazing blessing of a day!
xoxo
